Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is looking for a compassionate, hands-on team player to support patient care at Cootamundra Hospital, with a pathway into Health and Security Assistant duties.
About The Role
Join Murrumbidgee Local Health District as a Wardsperson, providing assistance in relation to patient personal hygiene, transfers, care of the deceased, and movement of ward supplies and equipment to support clinical staff in the delivery of patient care. This role offers a pathway to Health and Security Assistant duties, and is a physically active, people-focused position at the heart of the hospital's day-to-day operations, working across a 24 hour, 7 day rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
As The Wardsperson, You Will Be Responsible For
Providing patient assistance and supporting nursing and clinical staff with patient personal hygiene, lifting, repositioning, transfers and transportation of patients. Assisting clinical staff when preparing deceased patients for transfer to the mortuary and providing support for family viewings as required. Ensuring the safe erection, transfer and removal of bed and bedside equipment, medical gas cylinders and other used supplies. Facilitating the transport and delivery of pathology specimens, x-rays and other equipment as required. Performing routine cleaning, housekeeping and general wardsperson duties. Working within high dependency medical areas including Emergency and ICU, supporting major trauma patients and other situations as directed by clinical staff.
Our Ideal Candidate Will
Have demonstrated experience as a Wardsperson or in a similar role within a patient centred care environment, or the ability to perform patient care activities and transportation of patients in beds and wheelchairs. Have a proven understanding of Infection Control policies and procedures. Possess literacy skills including the ability to read and follow instructions, duty lists, policies and produce reports as required. Have demonstrated experience working in a people-oriented environment, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Communicate confidently with a variety of patients, visitors, staff and managers, with an understanding of confidentiality. Be able to work in a diverse, physically challenging position, and be willing to work shifts on a 7 day rotating roster. Have demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety, including manual handling and reporting hazards and incidents. Hold a National Police Check, NSW Working With Children Check, and meet Vaccination Category A requirements.
