Welfare Officer

As a Welfare Officer, you will work closely with detainees to assess their needs, provide support, and facilitate access to services that promote wellbeing, engagement, and positive outcomes.

This is a full-time position based at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre (YHIDC) in Northam.

The role operates on a six-week rotational roster, with 12-hour shifts from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. You will work 7 shifts per fortnight, providing a balanced work schedule while ensuring continuous support for detainees.

• Deliver evidence-based assessments and welfare interventions 

• Develop and regularly review individual care plans 

• Support detainees in building life skills and social capacity 

• Ensure access to culturally specific services and programs 

• Maintain accurate case notes and timely reporting 

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the facility 

• Respond to emergency situations and attend debriefs when required 

• Support drug and alcohol testing procedures where relevant  

You're compassionate, reliable, and bring a solutions-focused approach to your work. You thrive in team environments and are committed to upholding dignity, respect, and safety. 

• Diploma in Community Services or equivalent (mandatory) 

• First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain) 

• Prior experience with complex client's delivery case management services 

• Valid Working With Children Check (or willing to obtain) 

• Ability to pass Australian Federal Police Check

• Ability to work across the 7 days of the week
