Intellectual Property team 

Gilbert + Tobin’s award-winning IP Group advises across the full spectrum of IP law, including patents, copyright, trade marks, designs, brand protection, trade practices, false advertising, data protection, licensing, product liability, cyber security and anti-counterfeiting. IP enforcement is a specialty. We consistently work at the cutting edge of IP law, with clients whose business success is based squarely on the successful management of complex IP issues.  

The team is comprised of dedicated and hard-working lawyers that function as a true meritocracy. We focus on tailoring development programs and career goals to the capability of individual lawyers, rather than their traditional PQE level.

Role overview 

As an IP Lawyer you will: 

• Advise and act in copyright, patent, trade mark and design disputes. 

• Work on Federal Court and High Court proceedings, gaining exposure to landmark decisions that shape Australian IP law

• Partner with clients ranging from innovative startups to global financial institutions and industry leaders in tech, life sciences, media and FMCG 

While the group is predominantly litigation-focused, we also run a strong commercial and advisory practice. We welcome applications from lawyers who are intellectually curious, commercially savvy and eager to grow. An IP professional who thrives on challenging the status quo. 

About you 

We are looking for someone who is: 

• A 4-7 PQE lawyer, with experience in Litigation and/or Intellectual Property. 

• Excited by the complexity and pace of IP matters, including cross-border disputes and strategic enforcement 
• Experience working with clients who are on the forefront of change and transformation  

• Interested in innovative, market-moving clients, including science, technology, and media 

• Academically strong, ideally with a science or technical background, although not essential 

• Energised by testing ideas and making bold choices.
