An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen at MAYA Mexican.
Perched above Fortitude Valley with breathtaking 270-degree views of the Brisbane CBD, Story Bridge and New Farm, MAYA has established itself as one of Brisbane's premier dining destinations. Combining vibrant Mexican flavours with premium Australian produce, our menu draws inspiration from the coastal regions of Baja California, Yucatán and Tulum, delivering a modern dining experience built around sharing, quality and exceptional hospitality.
As Head Chef, you will take full ownership of the kitchen, leading a talented brigade while driving culinary excellence, operational efficiency and team development. This is an outstanding opportunity for a passionate leader looking to make their mark with one of Brisbane's leading hospitality groups.
About the RoleAs Head Chef, you will be responsible for the overall management of the kitchen, including:
Leading, inspiring and developing the kitchen team
Delivering exceptional food quality, consistency and presentation
Creating and developing seasonal menus in line with the MAYA concept
Managing food costs, labour budgets and kitchen profitability
Ordering, stock control and inventory management
Maintaining accurate recipe costing and portion control
Driving innovation while maintaining brand standards
Ensuring all food safety, HACCP and workplace health and safety standards are met
Training and mentoring chefs
Curating a positive, professional and high-performing kitchen culture
Working closely with the Venue Manager and senior leadership team to achieve business objectives
Maintaining equipment and ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently at all times
To be successful in this role you will have:
Previous experience as a Head Chef
A proven ability to lead high-performing kitchen teams
Strong financial acumen with experience managing food costs and labour budgets
Excellent organisational and communication skills
A passion for developing people and building positive team culture
The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality
Sound knowledge of HACCP, food safety and compliance
Full Australian working rights
Experience with Mexican or Latin American cuisine is highly regarded.
