AFL Cairns is looking for an energetic and passionate Game Development Coordinator to join our football team.
For many young people, their first experience of Australian football comes through Auskick, school football or a community program.
This role is about making that first experience a great one and creating a pathway for young people to continue their football journey through our community clubs.
This is a hands-on football development role. You’ll spend your time in schools, clubs and communities delivering quality football programs, building relationships and helping grow participation across our region.
What you’ll doDeliver AFL Auskick programs in schools and community clubs
Deliver school football programs, competitions and participation activities
Introduce more boys and girls to Australian football
Build strong relationships with schools, teachers and community organisations
Create pathways from schools and Auskick into junior club football
Support transition and retention of participants into community clubs
Support junior football development and participation initiatives
Contribute to football carnivals, events and community programs
Work alongside AFL Cairns clubs and our broader football team
Identify opportunities to grow participation across the region
We’re looking for someone with energy, personality and a genuine passion for football and working with young people.
You might come from coaching, teaching, sports development, community sport, playing or umpiring. You may also be studying or starting your career in the sports industry.
What matters is your ability to connect with young people, confidently engage a group and create positive football experiences.
You’ll ideally bring:
A positive and enthusiastic approach
Confidence working with children and young people
Strong communication and presentation skills
Good organisation and planning skills
Initiative and the ability to work independently
A strong team-first attitude
Knowledge and passion for Australian football
Experience in coaching, playing, umpiring, education, sports development or community sport
Relevant qualifications or study in sport, recreation, coaching or education, or equivalent experience
AFL coaching accreditation, or willingness to obtain it
Current Queensland Driver Licence and access to a vehicle
Blue Card, or ability to obtain one
First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain it

The positionFull-time position based in Cairns, with delivery across Cairns and Far North Queensland.
The position is classified under the Sporting Organisations Award – Sports Coach Level 2.
Due to the nature of community sport, some evening and weekend work will be required.
