We're looking for an experienced and solutions-focused Operation Support and Improvement Scientist to join our team on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting to the Manager Operational Improvement, this role plays a key part in improving the performance, reliability and compliance of TasWater's water and wastewater systems. You'll apply your scientific and technical expertise to optimise treatment processes, investigate operational challenges, improve compliance outcomes, and deliver innovative solutions that support safe, sustainable and reliable service delivery across Tasmania.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically capable professional who enjoys solving complex problems, analysing system performance, and working collaboratively with operational teams to drive continuous improvement.

In this role, you will:

• Provide technical leadership and expert scientific advice to improve the performance, reliability and compliance of water and wastewater networks and systems.

• Analyse treatment and network performance to identify opportunities for system optimisation and operational improvement.

• Lead investigations, trials and the implementation of innovative solutions to improve outcomes and reduce operational risk.

• Collaborate with operations teams, project teams and technical specialists to deliver practical, evidence-based solutions.

• Develop technical reports, recommendations and business cases to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

• Coach, mentor and share technical expertise to build capability across operational teams and emerging professionals.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a collaborative and analytical professional with a passion for process improvement, operational excellence and delivering positive environmental and community outcomes.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

• Experience analysing and improving operational, treatment or process systems to enhance performance, reliability and compliance outcomes.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and translate insights into practical, evidence-based solutions.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively, actively listen, build trusted relationships and share technical knowledge with others.

• A curious and proactive mindset, with experience contributing to scientific investigations, trials.

• A degree in science (relevant to this team/discipline) or equivalent relevant competency.

The Details

This role can be based either at Hobart, Devonport or Launceston and attracts a salary range of $113,918.64 - $120,247.46 per annum (inclusive of superannuation).

The role will involve travel across Tasmania to support operational sites and may require participation in after-hours work or an on-call roster as business requirements dictate.
