Stair Innovations
About the role
CAD drafting for custom staircase manufacture. Golden Grove, Adelaide. Full-time permanent, $65,000 – $80,000 + superannuation.
About us
Stair Innovations is a South Australian manufacturer of high-end custom staircases for residential and commercial projects. We work closely with architects, builders and homeowners to deliver complex stair solutions, and we manufacture everything we design.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced CAD draftsperson to join our team full-time, working alongside our Production Manager to develop architectural concepts into production-ready staircase designs.
The role suits a draftsperson who values close involvement in manufacturing. Our drawing office and workshop operate as one team, and you will resolve detailing questions directly with the people building the staircase rather than sending drawings into a void. Expect regular back-and-forth with the floor, occasional site measure, and drawings that are tested against reality within weeks.
The work itself is genuinely demanding: curved and helical stringers, floating treads, steel and timber hybrid construction, and site conditions that rarely match the architectural drawings exactly. No two projects are the same.
Training is provided on StairCon. Staircase-specific software experience is rare and we do not expect it. If you can draft accurately and interpret construction drawings, we will teach you the rest.
Responsibilities
Producing detailed staircase drawings and manufacturing documentation using DraftSight and StairCon
Interpreting architectural and construction drawings, and resolving discrepancies within them
Working alongside the Production Manager to develop accurate, buildable staircase designs
Preparing production files, material take-offs and cut lists
Assisting with quoting and project preparation
Providing design clarification and technical detail to the workshop team
Maintaining organised project and drawing documentation
Essential
A minimum of two years in a drafting, detailing or design role using AutoCAD, DraftSight, SolidWorks, Revit, Inventor or comparable software
The ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings with confidence
A high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
Clear, practical communication with tradespeople, builders and clients
Full working rights in Australia
Desirable
StairCon experience
A background in staircases, joinery, cabinetry, shopfitting, structural steel detailing or carpentry
Trade or construction industry experience
Working knowledge of NCC stair and balustrade requirements
We would also encourage applications from candidates looking to move across from an adjacent field — cabinet makers working in Cabinet Vision or Microvellum, structural steel detailers, shopfitters and building designers are all well positioned for this role.
What we offer
$65,000 – $80,000 + superannuation, commensurate with experience
A full-time permanent position, Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm
On-site parking in Golden Grove, approximately 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and readily accessible from across the north-east
Direct mentoring from experienced staff and structured training in staircase design
The opportunity to develop specialist expertise that is not available elsewhere in the state
A small, established team where practical suggestions are acted on quickly
Varied project work, all of it manufactured in-house
Applications
Applications should include a current resume. Sample drawings or a portfolio are welcome and will be considered as part of your application.. Full-time permanent, $65,000 – $80,000 + superannuation.
