About the Opportunity 

The Medical Officer delivers safe, evidence-based, holistic primary health care within the Apunipima Model of Care to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in Cape York. The role supports national clinical standards and culturally appropriate, client-centred care. This position is based in Mossman Gorge.

About you:

To be successful in the role you will need;

• Extensive experience delivering clinical services in primary health care settings, including remote health environments, with the ability to manage uncertainty and complex health issues.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, demonstrating an understanding of community protocols, customs, and the principles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control.
• Strong commitment to improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, with a sound understanding of the social determinants of health and the historical and contemporary issues impacting communities, particularly in Cape York.
• Experienced in working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, with strong time management skills and the ability to effectively manage personal workloads and support team priorities.
• Flexible and adaptable professional willing to travel throughout Cape York by light aircraft or 4WD as required to support the delivery of health services.

Mandatory Requirement:

• Tertiary qualification in Medicine with current unrestricted specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
• Eligibility to obtain a Medicare Provider Number.
• Current Medical Indemnity Insurance
• Current Queensland Drivers Licence
• Australian Federal Police Check
