The Office of Tourism and the Visitor Economy in Austrade leads the development and implementation of tourism and visitor economy policy for the Australian Government and provides the Australian Government’s official tourism statistics.
We work with a range of Commonwealth agencies, States and Territories, industry and researchers to develop and deliver innovative and effective policy outcomes for tourism. We use insights from this engagement, along with tourism data, to support the Minister for Trade and Tourism and Assistant Minister for Tourism in our collective work to deliver THRIVE 2030, the national visitor economy strategy.
We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic person to fill Senior Policy Advisor roles at the EL1 level. There is one confirmed vacancy in the International and Diversification Section of the Office of Tourism and the Visitor Economy. A merit list will be developed to fill future vacancies.
Successful candidates will work on a diverse range of issues, which could include growing international tourism, workforce and skills, transport and border services, First Nations, sustainability, and regional tourism.
The key duties of the position include:Austrade is an Australian Commonwealth Government agency with approximately 1,1100 staff based across 98 offices in 50 countries. Austrade reports to the Minister for Trade and Tourism. Austrade’s core purpose is to grow Australia’s prosperity and promote Australia on the global stage. Through our teams located across Australia and our extensive international network, we help Australian exporters to grow, expand and diversify internationally, facilitate high-quality international investment into Australia, boost Australia’s visitor economy, deliver commercial insights to inform government policy, execute government programs, and implement simplified trade reforms. Austrade is a key enabler and delivery agency for Australia’s economic security with a focus on net zero transformation, trade modernisation, export diversification, building critical capabilities and technologies, the visitor economy and the growth of First Nations businesses. With international trade and capital markets continuing to navigate economic uncertainty and intensifying competition, Austrade’s role has never been more important.
