About Warracknabeal Special Developmental SchoolWarracknabeal Special Developmental School (SDS) is a dual-model special education setting located in the North Wimmera. Housed in modern, purpose-built facilities co-located with the local primary and secondary schools, we cater to 33 inspiring students aged 5–18 with mild, moderate, and profound intellectual disabilities, alongside physical, sensory, and behavioural support needs.Our vision is to provide a safe and supportive community of lifelong learners where respect, diversity, and success are valued. We are seeking a passionate, adaptable, and dedicated Special Education Classroom Teacher to join our collaborative team of educators and Education Support (ES) staff.In this role, you will design and deliver highly personalised learning programs tailored to a diverse student cohort—ranging from pre-writing and early functional communication stages through to senior transition pathways.
Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Design & Delivery: Plan and implement sequential learning programs grounded in the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 (VC 2.0), adapting outcomes to meet individual developmental stages.Structured Teaching: Utilise TEACCH structured teaching principles to establish predictable, visual, and supportive classroom environments that foster personal independence.Senior Pathways: Deliver ASDAN (Towards Independence) coursework for senior students (Years 7–12) to build essential life skills, autonomy, and community engagement.Individualised Support: Develop, monitor, and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students across a spectrum of learning, communication, sensory, and physical needs.Collaborative Practice: Lead dynamic classroom teams of Education Support staff to ensure cohesive, safe, and positive learning environments.Community Engagement: Foster respectful, transparent relationships with families, allied health professionals, and the broader community.Key Selection Criteria & QualificationsRegistration: Current Registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).Pedagogical Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge or experience in special education frameworks, including TEACCH structured teaching and Victorian Curriculum 2.0 adaptations. Experience with ASDAN pathways is highly regarded.Inclusive Mindset: Strong commitment to student-centred teaching, promoting dignity, independence, and personal success for students with diverse abilities (including pre-writing learners).Team Leadership: Proven capability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and guide classroom ES staff.Values Alignment: A strong alignment with our core values of Respect, Equity, and Honesty.
