Senior Peer Recovery Support Worker

Help others build hope, confidence and recovery through your own lived experience.

Permanent full-time | Logan Central | 24-hour roster | Metro South Health — Use your lived experience of mental health and/or substance use recovery to provide peer support, education and mentoring within the Logan Community Care Unit.

As a Senior Peer Recovery Support Worker, you'll draw on your personal lived experience to support consumers on their recovery journey, while working as part of a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery-oriented practice, education and peer support. Your role will include:

• Providing formalised peer support, practical assistance, education, information and referrals to help consumers build resilience and achieve meaningful recovery goals.
• Sharing your recovery story to promote hope, self-belief, self-advocacy and confidence.
• Supporting the co-development, delivery and evaluation of education and training activities.
• Guiding and mentoring peer workers and promoting peer work values.
• Working collaboratively with consumers, carers, families, multidisciplinary teams, NGOs and government agencies.
• Supporting consumers to participate in appointments, meetings and practical activities aligned with their recovery goals.
• Contributing the consumer and carer perspective to team meetings, clinical reviews and service improvement.

The position works across a 24-hour roster, including nights and weekends, with some travel across Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Services.

You'll bring your lived experience, peer work knowledge and ability to build respectful relationships, together with:

• Personal lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues and recovery.
• Experience working in a similar role within a public mental health service or NGO environment.
• Strong communication, empathy and relationship-building skills.
• An understanding of recovery-oriented practice, peer work values and co-production from a lived experience perspective.
• The ability to co-develop and co-deliver education activities.
• The ability to guide and mentor peer workers.
• A Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work or Community Services, or a willingness to work towards one, is highly desirable.
