Financial Accountant

About the Role

PSD Energy is seeking a detail-focused and proactive Financial Accountant to join our Finance team.

Reporting to the Finance Manager – Corporate, this role plays an important part in maintaining the integrity of the company’s financial records, supporting payroll accounting processes, and assisting with month-end and year-end reporting requirements.

This position will suit an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working across general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, financial reporting, audit preparation, payroll accounting and process improvement. You will also gain exposure to project-based accounting within a growing renewable energy, construction and infrastructure business.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Preparing and posting general ledger journals
• Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts
• Preparing monthly accruals, prepayments and other month-end adjustments
• Performing detailed balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances
• Reconciling bank accounts and intercompany transactions
• Assisting with month-end and year-end close processes
• Supporting payroll-related accounting activities
• Reconciling payroll-related general ledger accounts, leave provisions, payroll tax, PAYG withholding and superannuation balances
• Liaising with Payroll and Human Resources teams regarding payroll accounting matters
• Assisting with payroll compliance reviews where required
• Assisting in the preparation of monthly management reports
• Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes
• Analysing financial results and identifying trends or anomalies
• Providing financial data and reporting support to operational stakeholders
• Preparing audit workpapers and supporting schedules
• Assisting with internal and external audit requirements
• Supporting the preparation of BAS, payroll tax, FBT and other statutory obligations
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and controls
• Supporting ERP system enhancements and automation initiatives
• Maintaining documentation of key finance processes and procedures

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Degree qualifications in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
• 3–5 years’ experience in a Financial Accountant or similar role
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting principles
• Demonstrated experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries and month-end adjustments
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong attention to detail and sound analytical capability
• Confidence working with financial data, investigating variances and supporting accurate reporting outcomes
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders across Finance, Payroll, HR and operational teams
• CPA or CA studies commenced or completed, highly regarded

Desirable Experience

The following will be highly regarded:

• Experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, renewable energy or project-based environments
• Payroll accounting experience
• Exposure to ERP systems
• Understanding of payroll tax, superannuation and employment compliance obligations
