Youth Activities Officer

About the role
As a Youth Activities Officer, you will support the delivery of a diverse range of programs, activities and events for young people aged 12 to 25 across Greater Geelong. Working as part of the Youth Development Unit, you will help create safe, welcoming and inclusive environments where young people feel respected, connected and encouraged to participate.

The role supports the delivery of youth engagement initiatives across the municipality, including programs, events, school holiday activities, outreach opportunities and drop-in services. This may include working at the City's youth hubs, including The fOrT Youth Centre in Norlane, The Nest Youth Hub in central Geelong, and the Mobile Youth Hub, which activates in locations across Greater Geelong.

Additional programs and activities may also be delivered at community locations throughout the municipality. As a casual staff member, you will be expected to work flexibly across a variety of settings, including after-hours and weekend shifts, to support program delivery and operational requirements.

Classification: Band 3 $44.90 p/h (inc casual loading)

Key responsibilities include:

• Support the delivery, setup, and pack down of youth programs and events
• Engage positively with young people to create a safe and inclusive environment.
• Actively supervise and engage participants, follow safety procedures and promptly report any concerns.
• Work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively.
• Follow established processes, take initiative, and seek support when needed.
• Be reliable, adaptable, and conduct yourself in a manner that is consistent with the organisation’s values. 

About you
The ideal candidate for this role will have some experience working with young people in a community setting. You will possess a warm, caring and engaging personality, with a high level of resilience and the confidence to manage a dynamic work environment. You will have a keen eye for detail, can manage your time effectively, be diligent in your approach to your work and be willing to roll up your sleeves and pitch in where required.

Essential Experience

• Relevant qualification and/or experience in Community Services, Social Work, Youth Work or Social Sciences.
• Current Level 2 First Aid and CPR qualification (or willingness to obtain).
• Current Victorian Working with Children Check (employee).
• Demonstrated ability to engage and build positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
• Good people skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members in a busy and dynamic work environment.
• Demonstrated ability to respond to challenges and contribute to smooth program delivery in a dynamic work environment.
• Good time management and organisational skills, ability to follow plans and meet deadlines.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
