About the Opportunity
This recruitment process offers a Fixed-Term Full-Time contract with the possibility of contract extension(s) and/or permanency.
The successful applicant will hold responsibility for providing emergency mental health intervention and managing consumers under the care coordination model within the community mental health service. Undertakes triage, primary client assessment and management of complex mental health emergencies and crises at an advanced level. Provides specialised clinical consultancy regarding mental health emergencies for community mental health teams and for the community.

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, applicants found suitable for this position may be considered for other ‘similar’ vacancies within EMHS and/or the wider WA public sector. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
Suitability Criteria
• Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Nursing and registration with the relevant Board, or Tertiary qualifications in Social Work and eligible for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
• Extensive knowledge of mental health disorders and demonstrated clinical practice in mental health including skills relevant to triage, mental state and risk assessment, crisis intervention and treatment planning.
• Demonstrated understanding of and experience relevant to emergency intervention, including understanding of Mental Health Act and National Mental Health Standards.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Current “C” or “C.A.” class drivers licence.
• Current knowledge and commitment to equal opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.
Area Profile
The East Metropolitan Health Service comprises an extensive hospital and health service network that aims to maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of more than 828,000 Western Australians in its catchment area.
Our hospital network works together to provide a combination of tertiary, secondary and specialist health care services including emergency and critical care, state trauma, elective and emergency surgery, general medical, mental health, inpatient and outpatient services, aged care, palliative care, rehabilitation and women’s, children’s and neonates services.
The EMHS consists of Royal Perth Hospital; Mt Lawley Hospital; Armadale Health Service; Bentley Health Service; Kalamunda Hospital; St John of God Midland Public Hospital and a range of community and population health services.
Midland Community Mental Health Service is part of Bentley Health Service and is situated in the heart of Midland, is easily accessible via public transport and is close to Midland Gate Shopping Centre. It is a multidisciplinary tertiary mental health service providing specialist Mental Health care and care coordination for eligible consumers aged from 18 years in the Swan/Hills catchment. Multidisciplinary teams work with consumers to achieve their recovery goals and return to primary care in the community.
