Junior Graphic Designer – Australia Zoo

An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the Australia Zoo Design Team as a Full Time ‘Junior Graphic Designer’! This position works closely with the Creative Services Manager and a team of Graphic Designers to ensure the smooth functioning of all elements within the department.

This position is responsible for the continued growth of Australia Zoo’s brand through the creation of new graphic design concepts and collateral that is compliant with Australia Zoo’s Style Guide, core brand and ethos. It requires creativity, passion, time management skills and the versatility to work across a multitude of task types and provide assistance for a wide variety of different departments and teams.

A successful applicant must be enthusiastic, mature-minded, confident, well-presented and able to demonstrate a high level of work-ethic and initiative. Customer Service skills are also a must due to the client relationships.

This role is also an onsite position and it is required to work at Australia Zoo in an office environment.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Ensure all design work (offline + online) adheres to Australia Zoo’s brand guidelines.
• Following art direction that meets marketing objectives and maintains consistency of the Australia Zoo brand and sub-brands.
• Contribution of ideas/designs for development of the Australia Zoo brand, sub-brands and promotional items.
• Design and develop a wide range of branded merchandise working closely with our retail/management teams.
• Assist with the creation of new projects from branding and concept formation through to production.
• Coordinate every aspect of a job from start to finish and work within the parameters of the procedures to ensure job details are updated daily.
• Update existing and create new digital/print documentation and forms for use by a variety of departments throughout the zoo.
• Create and develop event day themes which tie with the Australia Zoo brand, including print, digital and social assets.
• Conduct stocktakes of zoo marketing collateral and regulatory/wayfinding signage and animal interpretive signage on a regular basis.
• Liaise with external suppliers when required.
• Actively seek new images to better create attention and encapsulate the Australia Zoo brand.
• Actively seek new and update marketing/promotional collateral ideas (i.e. brochure ideas, signage types, external displays etc).
• Ensure all Marketing Department are up to date with image libraries and understand correct usage of images and branding elements.
• Ensure timesheets are completed on a weekly basis.
• Any other duties as requested by Management.

General Staff Responsibilities:

• Provide and maintain the highest level of customer service standards at all times.
• Provide and maintain cleaning standards within the area of your work.
• Ensure company confidentiality, ethics and professional standards are adhered to at all times.
• Working within the guidelines of Workplace Health and Safety procedures.
• Participating in performance training and development reviews or programs.
• Be willing to extend and apply skills and knowledge to undertake expanding/changing responsibilities.
• Take ownership of self-development by developing skills and knowledge.
• Be willing to assist other departments operationally.
• Other duties as requested by Senior Management.

Essential Criteria:

• At least 1-2 years of experience in a Designing or Branding role, Print and Online Production or equivalent.
• Available and flexible to work weekends, public holidays, and school holiday periods (e.g. Tuesday to Saturday work week).
• Customer Service skills and experience maintaining client relationships.
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite CC, in particular InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator in a Mac environment. Knowledge of After Effects would also be an advantage.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs or similar types of software.
• Experience working with vinyl and vinyl installation.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
