• 24-month paid trainee program, Full Time Role
• Location:  Sydney or Melbourne
• Base salary $71,638 plus 15.4% ABC Nominated Super Fund

About the Role

This is a 24-month paid trainee program where you’ll learn and build skills in digital product development at the ABC.

During the program, you’ll rotate through Product Engineering, where you’ll get hands-on experience while being supported by experienced ABC engineers.

As you learn, you’ll discover what you enjoy most and have the chance to focus on an area that interests you.

With guidance and support from senior engineers, you will:

• Help create digital products that audiences across Australia use every day including websites, apps and streaming services.
• Learn how to write secure, high-quality code.
• Keep simple, clear technical notes and instructions so that others can understand how things work.
• Learn modern ways of working in software engineering.
• Build an understanding of ABC digital products, who use them, and why they are important.
• Complete all learning, training, and orientation activities as part of the ABC trainee program.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is motivated to learn, grow their skills, and take the next step in their career in technology with the ABC. If you’re not currently studying or working towards a qualification, we can provide training as part of this role.

You don’t need to know everything already. This role is about your curiosity, potential and willingness to learn, with support provided along the way.

We’d like you to have:

• Experience building software, using one or more programming languages or tools - and a willingness to learn how existing systems work with guidance.
• A good understanding of common development tools, such as version control and task-tracking tools, or a strong interest in learning how to use them.
• The ability to share ideas, ask questions, and communicate clearly as part of a team.
• The ability to plan your work, manage time, and prioritise tasks.
• A thoughtful and practical approach to solving problems.

You also bring lived experience and a strong understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, and you are committed to working in ways that are culturally safe, respectful, and focused on community.

You’ll also be part of the ABC’s Indigenous staff network, ABC Mob and have access to support from the Indigenous Employment Manager throughout your time in the program.
