Surveyor

McMahon Services is seeking an experienced Surveyor to join our Civil & Infrastructure team in South Australia.

This is a hands-on role for a Surveyor who enjoys working autonomously, solving problems in the field and being closely involved in project delivery.

You'll provide surveying support across a diverse range of civil works, including earthworks, roads, drainage, utilities and structures, using modern technology including GPS/GNSS, total stations, drones, Tiny Surveyor Robot, 3D modelling and machine control systems.

Our projects take us across South Australia, so regular regional travel and working away from home will form part of this role. For the right person, that means plenty of variety, exposure to different projects and the opportunity to take genuine ownership of your work.

About the Role

Reporting to the Survey Manager, you'll be trusted to work with a high degree of autonomy, planning and delivering surveying activities to support our civil construction teams.

You'll undertake field set-out, topographic and as-built surveys, capture and process survey data, and support the development and maintenance of 3D models for machine control.

You'll also have the opportunity to use and further develop your capability with modern surveying technology, including drone surveys and Tiny Surveyor Robot, alongside traditional GPS/GNSS and total station surveying.

Working across both metropolitan and regional projects, you'll communicate directly with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and plant operators to ensure construction activities are delivered accurately and in accordance with project specifications and tolerances.

This position will involve regular travel and periods working away from home depending on project requirements.

What You'll Do

• Independently plan and complete surveying activities to support project delivery.
• Complete site set-out across earthworks, roads, drainage, utilities and structures.
• Undertake topographic, as-built and drone surveys.
• Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, total stations and other modern survey technology.
• Use the Tiny Surveyor Robot to support efficient construction set-out activities.
• Capture, process and manage accurate survey data.
• Develop and maintain 3D models for survey and machine control applications.
• Upload and manage models for GPS-controlled graders, dozers, excavators and other plant.
• Troubleshoot machine control and model-related issues.
• Verify set-out and survey data against project specifications and tolerances.
• Work directly with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors and plant operators to support construction activities.
• Maintain survey equipment, records and quality assurance requirements.
• Contribute to safe and efficient project delivery.

What You'll Bring

• Minimum 3+ years' surveying experience within civil construction.
• Degree or Diploma in Surveying, Geomatics or a related discipline.
• Experience using GPS/GNSS equipment and total stations.
• Sound understanding of civil construction surveying principles.
• Understanding of 3D modelling for survey and machine control applications.
• Experience with survey software such as 12d, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Centre or AutoCAD.
• Ability to work autonomously, prioritise field requirements and make sound decisions.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness and flexibility to travel and work away on regional projects.
• Current Driver's Licence and White Card.
• Police Check and DCSI Clearance, or willingness to obtain.
