About the role
Vestas have a new role open for an experienced Specialist Skills Technician to support WTG and Substation operations across our wind farms in the Victorian region.
The position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of High Voltage (HV) equipment, as well as the maintenance of HV systems and associated auxiliaries. The role includes coordinating and supervising subcontractors and requires close collaboration with EPC and Service (WTG/Site) teams to ensure seamless operational integration. In addition to substation and balance‑of‑plant activities, the EBoP Technician may also contribute to the operation and maintenance of Wind Turbine HV gear, as well as solar and battery storage systems across Vestas’ asset portfolio.
There will be a requirement to travel to our other wind farms.
Responsibilities
Safety
Ensuring that each task is undertaken in a manner that ensures the safety of personnel, protects the environment and work methods are followed at all times;
Comply with the duty of care assigned under OH&S legislation and demonstrate commitment to accident prevention;
Undertake Site Inductions, Wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);
Report all incidents, accidents or near misses;
Observe all work instructions, procedures, safety codes of practice, employer OH&S and Environmental requirements and statutory rules and regulations;
Ensure teams adhere to Vestas HV Electrical Safety rules
Operation & Maintenance of HV Equipment
Travel to sites and undertake HV scheduled service, inspections and reactive maintenance on a as required basis;
Provide remote operational and technical support to site based HV operators
Respond and attend site outside normal working hours to undertake unscheduled maintenance on a as required basis;
Plan and execute substation maintenance shutdowns - coordinate (including liaising with internal teams), supervise third parties and generate reports;
Undertake operations and maintenance within the limits of training and authorisation including operation of HV and LV equipment;
Provide safe access to HV equipment, including writing and oversight of switching instructions and access documents;
All other duties within their competence, skill, qualifications and experience as directed;
Customers
Maintain good relationship with internal and external customers;
Understand external customers' requirements;
Provide prompt onsite feedback to customer;
Liaise with Power utilities on operational matters;
Support site teams with their requests;
Staff
Participating in safety, toolbox or other meetings where required
Coordinate, supervise working parties
Provide oversight on the training of HV operators
Liaise with other stakeholders for tasks that require input across teams e.g. Procurement, Sales etc
Qualifications
Education: HV Operator Certificate (Essential), Electrical Trade Grade A (Essential),
Electrical Engineering Diploma (Well regarded).
Experience: Extensive experience in electrical field including high voltage works.
Essential Skills: As above.

Knowledge of wind turbine, solar and storage battery systems components, and controls, including knowledge of processes and systems for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance.

Ability to identify and define source of problems through a logical process and evaluate possible solutions based on facts and sound judgment
Systematic
Characterized by order and planning.
Conducting work based on logical, consistent, and ordered methods
Supervisory skills - supervision of subcontractor and coordination of site-based technicians on HV tasks
Report writing skills, including MS Project and Presentations
