About the role
The Operations Manager is accountable for the safe, efficient and integrated delivery of operations across the Hellyer site. The role carries direct line leadership of the dredge operation through the Dredge Supervisors, together with a whole-of-site operational remit spanning the coordination of mining, processing, maintenance and logistics activity to deliver the integrated site production plan. The Operations Manager owns logistics planning and execution across the full product chain — from site product handling and stockpile management through rail loadout and transport to port receival and ship loading at Burnie — drives the performance improvement process across all site departments, sets and enforces the operational disciplines and standards that underpin consistent and predictable performance, and provides operational support to contract negotiations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide visible, consistent safety leadership and model CPG values and standards across all operational areas; ensure all activities comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (Tas), the Mines Work Health and Safety (Supplementary Requirements) Act 2012 (Tas) and the site Safety Management System
- Exercise a whole-of-site operational remit: integrate and coordinate activity across the dredge, processing, underground, maintenance and logistics functions to deliver the site production plan
- Lead the site's daily and weekly operational planning and review cadence, including production meetings and short-interval control
- Provide direct line leadership of the Dredge Supervisors and, through them, the dredge crews; deliver dredge production targets for tonnes, feed quality and consistency of supply to the flotation circuit
- Own end-to-end planning and execution of the product logistics chain, including site product handling and stockpile management, road haulage, rail loadout scheduling, rail transport to Burnie, and port storage and ship loading
- Set, document and embed clear operational standards across the site — standard operating procedures, standard work, housekeeping and workplace presentation — and hold teams visibly to account against them
- Lead and drive the performance improvement process across all site departments; establish, maintain and continuously refine the site operational KPI framework, performance dashboards and reporting
- Provide operational support to contract negotiations, including offtake, rail, port, shipping, haulage and major operational supply and services contracts
- Lead, coach and develop direct reports, including structured one-on-ones, performance reviews and development plans
- Contribute to annual and monthly operational plans, budgets and forecasts; manage operating costs within areas of accountability against budget
