About The Infants' Home

The Infants' Home has supported children and families since 1874. Based in Ashfield, we are a not-for-profit, integrated child and family service. Our services bring together early childhood education and care, family day care, early intervention, clinical services, family support and community programs. Today we run three integrated childcare centres onsite in Ashfield, and our Family Day Care serves the greater Sydney region.

Since 1874 we have championed the rights of children, women and families and protected those at risk. We guide families to build their strength, skills and confidence for a more positive future. Around 30% of our onsite services target children and families living with vulnerability or additional needs. We are also a member of the Early Childhood Intervention Best Practice Network.

About the role

We are seeking a Child and Family Health Nurse to strengthen early intervention and family health across our integrated service. You will join our allied health team and report to the Head of Therapy and Community Programs. You will coordinate our Early Years Parenting Support program. This program provides child and maternal health services for families with infants and young children up to age five. You will run onsite drop-in clinics, visit families at home, and support our playgroups. You will give families information, advice and referral on feeding, settling, sleep, secure attachment, child development and their own wellbeing. You will focus on families experiencing vulnerability. These include refugee and immigrant communities, young children with disabilities, and mothers and babies at risk of postnatal depression.

You will also build the capacity of the people around you. You will coach and mentor early childhood educators, deliver staff training, and help embed best practice in early intervention. You will contribute to Individual Family Support Plans alongside families and colleagues. You will represent The Infants' Home in playgroups, parent sessions, sector networks and university partnerships. The role is based in Ashfield and stays visible in the community. Expect a mix of clinic time, home visiting and outreach.

About you

You are a registered nurse who values working alongside families in their first years with a new baby. You bring calm clinical judgement, warmth and cultural sensitivity. You know when to advise, when to refer, and when to sit with a family and listen. You work well on your own and as part of a transdisciplinary team. You will bring:

• registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Additional postgraduate qualification in Nursing, preferably in child and family health and/or midwifery.
• advanced skills in assessing the health and development of children under 5, especially infants aged 0 to 18 months.
• current, best practice knowledge of early childhood development, wellbeing, family centred practice and early intervention.
• experience with young children, mothers and families who face high needs, vulnerability, disadvantage or trauma, and knowledge of trauma responsive practice.
• strong knowledge of women's health and postnatal depression, and confidence using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale.
• warm, clear communication with diverse families, including culturally and linguistically diverse families and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
• the ability to plan and manage your own service delivery, including home visits, assertive outreach, community liaison and record keeping.
• knowledge of child protection legislation, and a commitment to evidence based practice and ongoing professional development.
• confidence using Microsoft Office 365, practice management software and databases.
• a current NSW driver licence and access to an insured vehicle.
• mandatory national child safety training (Geccko).
• experience in early intervention, disability services, or with refugee and immigrant communities would be well regarded but is not essential.
