About The Opportunity
Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced Team Leader Water Treatment Aquatic Facilities to provide operational leadership across Council’s swimming pools and aquatic facilities.
Working under general direction and reporting to the Water Treatment Plant Coordinator, you will lead day-to-day water treatment operations, coordinate staff activities, maintain high standards of water quality and plant reliability, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards. This role also provides technical expertise, mentoring, workflow coordination and support for continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate daily water treatment operations across Council aquatic facilities to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant legislation and standards. Supervise and support assigned team members by allocating tasks, monitoring performance, and providing technical guidance and mentoring. Oversee water quality testing programs, review results, and ensure timely chemical dosing and corrective actions. Coordinate the operation and preventative maintenance of filtration systems, chemical dosing equipment and plant infrastructure. Lead responses to water quality incidents, plant faults and emergency situations in accordance with approved procedures and escalation pathways. Promote a safety-first culture and contribute to continuous improvement, including system upgrades, process optimisation, training improvements and service enhancements.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
General Construction Industry Training (White Card). QLD “C” Class Driver Licence or interstate equivalent, noting interstate licences must be transferred to QLD within three months of commencement. Practical experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting complex pool plant systems, including pumps, filters, analysers, automated chemical dosing systems and associated equipment. Practical experience managing teams, including overseeing performance, providing on-the-job coaching and supporting staff development within aquatic facility operations. Demonstrated ability to maintain auditable records of water quality data, chemical usage, compliance checks, maintenance activities and incident reporting. Strong interpersonal, computer, time management, planning and problem-solving skills, with sound knowledge of water chemistry and emergency response protocols.
Desirable (not Essential)
Certified Pool Operator (CPO), Pool Plant Operator, or equivalent certification. Certificate III in Aquatics and Community Recreation or equivalent. Experience with automated pool control systems and integrated monitoring platforms. Experience with SCADA or remote monitoring systems.
