About the opportunity
University of Tasmania's Health is seeking an Animal Services Coordinator to oversee the operations of its animal research facilities at the Medical Science Precinct in Hobart and the Cambridge Farm Facility.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring high standards of animal welfare, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across the University's animal services. These PC2 facilities support a diverse range of medical and health research programs, providing essential services that enable high-quality, ethical research.
You will lead a team of animal technicians and support staff, coordinate breeding programs, oversee animal welfare monitoring and assessments, and maintain accurate genetic and colony records.
Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a strong commitment to animal welfare and animal research facility operations. You are a collaborative and safety-focused leader who values ethical research, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. Able to lead and support teams, you will help deliver high-quality animal services that support world-class research while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, codes, and institutional requirements. A genuine commitment to improving health outcomes for Tasmanians through research is essential.
This is a shiftwork position requiring regular work outside standard business hours, including weekends and public holidays, as well as participation in an on-call roster for Animal Services.

Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $101,821 to $111,917 plus 17% superannuation.
