About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Practice Obstetrician to join our medical team on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled clinician to provide specialist obstetric care within a general practice setting in Baldivis, WA 6171. You will play a vital role in delivering antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to pregnant patients, whilst integrating seamlessly with our broader primary healthcare services. This position offers the flexibility of contract work, allowing you to manage your professional commitments whilst contributing meaningfully to our community's maternal healthcare needs.

Key responsibilities

• Providing comprehensive antenatal care including booking appointments, screening, risk assessment and management of pregnancy complications

• Offering intrapartum support and conducting straightforward deliveries within the general practice setting or in collaboration with maternity services

• Delivering postnatal care to mothers and newborns, including clinical assessments and health promotion advice

• Managing obstetric emergencies and complications with appropriate clinical judgment and safe referral pathways

• Conducting routine obstetric examinations, ultrasound assessments and other diagnostic procedures as required

• Maintaining detailed and accurate patient records in accordance with best practice guidelines and regulatory requirements

• Collaborating with midwives, maternity services, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care

• Providing patient education and counselling on pregnancy-related matters, birth options and postnatal health

• Staying current with obstetric guidelines, evidence-based practice and professional development opportunities

What we're looking for

• Current registration with the Australian Medical Board as a General Practitioner with recognised obstetric qualifications or experience

• Demonstrated experience in providing obstetric care within a general practice or primary healthcare setting

• Relevant qualifications such as a Diploma or advanced certification in Obstetrics, or equivalent recognised training

• Strong clinical knowledge and competency in managing routine pregnancies and recognising complications requiring specialist referral

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with pregnant patients and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

• Current First Aid and CPR certification, with knowledge of maternal and neonatal resuscitation preferred

• Commitment to professional development and adherence to clinical governance and quality improvement standards

• Flexibility to work within a contract arrangement with availability to meet practice scheduling requirements

• A patient-centred approach and genuine commitment to supporting women and families throughout their pregnancy journey
