Residential Care Officer

As a Residential Care Officer, you will provide day-to-day care, supervision and therapeutic support to clients living in residential settings. You will work closely with clients, families, support professionals and other team members to implement individualised support plans and assist clients in achieving greater independence and improved quality of life.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day care, supervision and support to clients within a residential care environment.
• Implement individualised care, therapeutic and behaviour support plans.
• Assist clients with daily living activities and the development of independent living and life skills.
• Monitor clients' physical, emotional and behavioural wellbeing and report any concerns or significant changes.
• Provide emotional and practical support to clients experiencing challenging or complex circumstances.
• Support positive behaviour strategies and appropriately respond to incidents and crisis situations.
• Encourage and assist clients to participate in social, recreational and community activities.
• Develop positive and professional relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Liaise with families, case managers, allied health professionals, support coordinators and other relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate progress notes, case records, incident reports and other required documentation.
• Participate in staff handovers, team meetings and case conferences to ensure continuity of care.
• Support clients in working towards the goals identified in their individual care and therapeutic support plans.
• Maintain a safe and supportive residential environment and comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
• Follow organisational policies, safeguarding requirements, privacy obligations and relevant care standards.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• A relevant qualification in Community Services, Disability, Youth Work, Individual Support, Mental Health, Social Services or a related field.
• Previous experience in residential care, disability support, therapeutic care, youth services or a similar environment.
• Experience supporting individuals with complex needs and/or challenging behaviours.
• Strong understanding of person-centred and therapeutic approaches to care.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prepare accurate case notes, progress reports and incident documentation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
• Relevant worker screening and police clearances as required for the position.
• A current Australian driver's licence is highly desirable.

Pay: $75,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
