About the opportunity

We are seeking a Lecturer to join the Australian Maritime College (AMC), part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, based in Launceston. Working within the Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics (CMEH), you will contribute to teaching, research, and industry engagement in areas such as naval architecture and ocean engineering. You will deliver high-quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students, support laboratory and project-based learning, and undertake applied research and consultancy aligned with maritime industries.

This teaching intensive role also involves contributing to curriculum development and helping shape innovative education, research, and industry partnerships. You will have access to AMC’s world-class facilities, including advanced simulation centres, research laboratories, and specialist maritime training infrastructure.

Some travel may be required, including interstate and international locations, and occasional weekend work.

What you’ll do:

• Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
• Undertake high-quality research of national and increasingly of international standing, secure external competitive and other funding, publish research findings and contribute to the successful supervision of research higher degree students, in order to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations for Level B.
• Undertake scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching of a high quality.
• Deliver laboratory sessions and contribute to the design, setup and conduct of physical scale model experiments across CMEH research facilities, with a particular focus on the Towing Tank and Model Test Basin.
• Participate in CMEH and AMC leadership and administration by contributing to committees, through active involvement in team planning, providing student and staff support, assisting with student recruitment and contributing to overall collegial well-being of the institute.

­What we’re looking for:

• A PhD in a relevant field, or evidence of progress towards completion of a PhD.
• Experience in or demonstrated potential and capability for university-level teaching and learning. 
• A good record of, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved national recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Maritime Engineering, demonstrated by a record of quality publications, presentations at conferences and preferably success in securing external competitive and other funding, and a demonstrated record of supervision and mentoring of Honours students, with the potential capability to supervise Higher Degree by Research students.
• A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community. 
• Demonstrated ability to design, set up and conduct physical scale model experiments with a high-level of attention to detail, preferably in the field of maritime hydrodynamics
• Able to obtain and maintain a personal security clearance of Negative Vetting Level 1.

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155,885 comprising base salary within the range of $114,766 to $133,235 plus 17% superannuation.
