Project Manager

The Role

As an APS 6 Project Manager, you will play an important role in delivering Defence capability outcomes by managing complex project activities within a dynamic and integrated workforce. Working under broad direction, you will coordinate project inputs and support the delivery of project objectives through effective management of schedules, risks, budgets, resources and stakeholder relationships.

You will exercise sound judgement, initiative and professionalism when interpreting policies, procedures and project requirements, providing informed advice and recommendations to stakeholders and decision-makers. You will contribute to project planning, governance, reporting and assurance activities, including preparing briefs, submissions, correspondence and other documentation for senior leaders.

The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify risks, resolve issues and implement practical solutions to support project delivery. Working collaboratively across Defence, industry and government, you will build productive relationships, negotiate effectively and contribute to team success. You may also lead or mentor staff, manage workflows and support capability development. Success in this role requires a commitment to achieving outcomes while ensuring compliance with Defence policies, frameworks and regulatory requirements.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. You will understand the importance of governance, accountability and compliance and be comfortable working within established policy and regulatory frameworks. Most importantly, you will be adaptable, resilient and able to respond effectively to changing priorities within a complex and evolving environment. 

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
