About WA Universal
WA Universal is a family-owned, third-generation Western Australian business and trusted and preferred provider of rigging and crane solutions. We deliver safe and efficient crane services across tier one construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects. As our Tower Crane and Mobile Crane operations continue to expand, we are seeking experienced technical professionals to support project planning, compliance, and execution.
Role Overview
This role sits within WA Universal’s technical and planning function and is responsible for supporting crane operations from concept through to execution. The position involves technical planning, crane selection, documentation, and close collaboration with internal teams, clients, manufacturers, and site personnel to ensure lifting operations are compliant with Australian standards and site-specific requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and review technical drawings, lift studies and method statements for tower and mobile crane operations.
Select appropriate crane types, capacities and configurations based on load, radius, site constraints and manufacturer guidelines.
Perform load calculations, crane chart interpretation, stability and foundation/ground bearing checks.
Prepare and manage technical documentation including lift studies, SWMS/JSA, risk assessments, permits and compliance records.
Interpret crane manuals and manufacturer guidelines.
Conduct site assessments and collaborate with clients, engineers, riggers, operators and project teams.
Ensure compliance with WorkSafe, CraneSafe, Australian Standards (including AS 2550 series) and internal procedures.
Provide technical support during mobilisations, lifts and demobilisations.
Manage and maintain crane data, drawings, certifications and technical records.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience in crane planning, technical coordination, or lift study preparation.
Strong understanding of crane operations, rigging methodology and safety systems.
Proficiency in AutoCAD / CAD software; experience with lift planning software and 3D tools advantageous.
Ability to interpret technical manuals, standards and engineering information.
Excellent communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
Relevant engineering, rigging, or lift planning qualifications preferred.
Strong safety focus and ability to work independently and within a team.
