About the role
Teacher of Vision - Macquarie

This is a 12-month Temporary Full-Time opportunity reporting directly to the Head of School and based onsite at NextSense School – Macquarie. The preferred commencement date is August 2026.
Job Description
What we can offer you:
Salary of up to $138, 329+ Super, with 100% salary packaging to maximise your take home pay.
Generous leave entitlements including 2 weeks paid Christmas leave in addition to 4 weeks annual leave, plus extensive personal/carer's leave.
Paid parental leave of 14 weeks for primary carer and 6 weeks for secondary carer.

You’ll make a difference in this role by:
Designing and implementing wellbeing, learning and teaching programs for students who are blind, deafblind or have low vision that demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between student engagement, learning and reasonable adjustments to curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.
Supporting colleagues to select and develop teaching strategies that are based on knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the visual system, the causes of visual disorders and their impact on student learning.
Consulting and liaising with student, parent/carers, teachers and allied health professionals in developing IEP's/ILP's that address explicit, challenging and achievable educational goals for students who are blind, deafblind or have low vision.
Adopting a practice of continuous professional development and professional reading to ensure that their knowledge and skills are up to date.
Attending appointments, meetings and consultations as required to carry out their duties.
Any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager
Desired Skills and Experience
About You:
Recognised postgraduate qualification in sensory disability.
Formal Teaching Degree or Diploma
Braille Proficiency Certificate
Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to handle sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy
Demonstrated teamwork and the ability to work independently
Working knowledge of technology and its uses within the field of vision impairment
Knowledge of braille and how to teach it
Demonstrated commitment to high-quality program delivery
Excellent organisational and time management skills
You are obliged to become familiar with, and comply with child protection policies and legislation, as amended from time to time.
Valid Working With Children Check and National Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain).
