Job Summary:
The Construction Project Manager is responsible for independently leading the delivery of complex, mission-critical data center construction projects across Australia. This role manages projects from initiation through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover while ensuring alignment with business objectives, budget commitments, quality standards, and schedule requirements.
As a recognized subject matter expert, the Construction Project Manager drives project execution excellence, develops business cases and improvement initiatives, contributes to construction standards and best practices, and provides guidance to project teams and stakeholders across disciplines. The role partners closely with Design, Procurement, Operations, Engineering, Network, and external vendor organizations to successfully deliver data center capacity and infrastructure investments.
Reporting into the Australian Director, we are looking for someone who has a strong learning mindset and receptive to coaching, hold all stakeholders to account where required, be open to constructive feedback – and we are willing to put significant time, support and resources into developing the successful candidate.
For this position we are looking for someone with a GC background, data center experience would be a big advantage, with a minimum requirement experience in project delivery in complex builds from adjacent industries.
Key responsibilities:
Project Management
Independently lead complex data center construction projects from inception through handoverManage project scope, budget, schedule, quality, risk, and operational readiness objectivesDevelop and review business cases, project plans, cost forecasts, and delivery strategiesEnsure construction activities are executed in accordance with company standards, safety requirements, and regulatory obligationsLead project governance, status reporting, issue resolution, and executive communications
Construction Delivery
Direct and coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and commissioning partnersOversee ground-up construction, expansions, renovations, retrofits, and critical infrastructure upgradesMonitor project performance metrics and implement corrective actions as neededEvaluate construction methods, procurement strategies, and delivery approaches to improve outcomesEnsure project documentation is complete and maintained throughout the project lifecycle
Subject Matter Expertise
Serve as an experienced construction PM experienced in managing mission-critical/data deliveryContribute to the development and continuous improvement of construction standards, processes, tools, and methodologiesIdentify opportunities to improve project delivery efficiency, cost performance, quality, and risk managementSupport lessons learned reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the organization
Stakeholder and Vendor Management
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external partnersCollaborate with cross-functional teams including Design, Procurement, Operations, Finance, Legal, and ITManage vendor performance, contract compliance, change management, and commercial considerationsInfluence decision-making through data-driven recommendations and strong project leadership
Qualifications, key skills and attributes:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or Trade qualification with relevant project experienceResponsible for construction project management in delivering mission-critical, industrial, advanced manufacturing, telecommunications, or data center construction projectsAbility to manage multiple concurrent construction projects through planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handoverDemonstrated experience in project controls including budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, risk management, and change managementStrong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems supporting critical infrastructure environmentsExperience managing general contractors, consultants, suppliers, and commissioning providersProven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive project outcomes without direct authorityStrong analytical, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skillsLearning mindset to ensure all training and development opportunities are taken up
