Communications Officer - Remote / Illawarra

Environmental Education NSW (EENSW) is a member based association that provides skills, networks, events and services for NSW environmental educators in every sector. EENSW is the NSW Chapter of the Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE). 

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role leads the communications for the EENSW's Illawarra Climate Schools Project. The project aims to build a climate focussed network in the Illawarra that supports positive climate actions in schools. The person will support a small team who are engaging schools and providers. This role manages and promotes EENSW's online environmental education provider and resource directory, WordPress website content and coordinates promotion for regional events. 

This is a part time contract role for 18 hours/week at $80/ hour inclusive of 12% superannuation. You will need your own workspace and ABN. The role is externally funded until end December 2026 with an opportunity for ongoing work in 2027. It is a remote friendly role, for someone who works well independently and enjoys managing hands-on communications and digital projects. 

Key responsibilities are: 

• Lead delivery of the online Provider Directory (WordPress plug-in),  working closely with an external web contractor to select, test and implement the right solution
• Manage and update EENSW website content, including climate education resources and curriculum materials 
• Lead regional communications and promotions including  updating the Communications Plan
• Coordinate registration and promotion for online and in person events,  including designing promotional collateral 
• Manage the day to day use of digital platforms eg WordPress, TidyHQ, Mailchimp 
• Contribute communications data for reporting. 

ABOUT YOU

We're interested in finding someone who wants to utilise their communication skills to help build climate positive actions in the Illawarra. 

We recognise it is initially a short term role so we are looking for someone who already has experience in the following areas:

• Demonstrated experience managing WordPress websites
• Experience using online platforms eg TidyHQ, Mailchimp, Canva
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication plans including EDM's, social media and event promotions
• Strong project coordination skills managing timelines, contractors and multi tasking
• Strong written communications and design skills
• Self directed and solutions focussed
• Experience working in the not for profit environmental sector is highly regarded but not essential.
