About the role
Port Kembla Public School (275 enrolments, including 36 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and 26 students from a non-English speaking background) is uniquely located opposite the Five Islands of the Illawarra and beneath the historic and culturally significant Hill 60. The school consists of twelve mainstream classes.
The school has a focus on consistent improvement and reflection on teaching practice and approaches to ensure effective curriculum implementation, targeted wellbeing supports and ongoing professional learning opportunities. Port Kembla Public School implements Positive Behaviour for Learning. Current directions include a focus on STEM, high potential and gifted education, student voice and professional learning relating to the science of learning. Our permaculture garden is proudly maintained by a dedicated group of students and community members and is an integral part of our close allegiance with the Warrawong Community of Schools. There is a high level of participation in sport and extracurricular activities. The school's P & C is active and supportive of school initiatives and works closely with teaching and administrative staff.

General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.
Demonstrated educational leadership with the commitment and capacity to develop the professional capability of staff and self to improve teaching and learning.
Demonstrated expertise in leading strategic school improvement through effective planning, implementation and evaluation of initiatives that enhance student outcomes.
Demonstrated commitment to equity and excellence, with the capacity to improve outcomes, participation and opportunities for every student.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive, collaborative and productive relationships with all stakeholders.

The commencement date for this position will be day 1 of the 2027 school year.
