About the role

The Kolors group of businesses is expanding, and our new steel fabrication division, Kolors Engineering, is looking for a capable fabricator-welder or boilermaker to join our team in Broome.

This is a varied, hands-on role involving steel fabrication, welding, architectural metalwork, structural components, CNC plasma-cut parts, signage structures and onsite installation work.

The successful applicant will primarily work within our fabrication division but will also assist other areas of the Kolors group when required. This may include sign production, sign installation, general workshop work, deliveries and helping complete unusual or custom projects.

This is not a repetitive production-line position. Our work changes regularly, and we are looking for someone who enjoys practical problem-solving and producing high-quality custom work.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate steel frames, structures, brackets and custom components
• MIG weld mild steel and other materials where suitably experienced
• Read and work from fabrication drawings, sketches and measurements
• Measure, mark, cut, drill, grind, fit and assemble components
• Fabricate architectural screens, fences, gates, stairs, frames and signage structures
• Assemble components produced by CNC plasma cutting and other equipment
• Carry out onsite measurements and assist with planning installations
• Install fabricated products, signs, posts, frames and associated components
• Assist with signage production and general sign installation
• Use hand tools, power tools and workshop machinery safely
• Load and unload materials and assist with deliveries
• Check completed work for dimensions, finish and overall quality
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop
• Assist with other production and maintenance tasks across the business when required

About you

We are looking for someone who:

• Has practical steel fabrication and welding experience
• Can work accurately from drawings, measurements and instructions
• Takes pride in producing neat, well-finished work
• Is comfortable working both in the workshop and onsite
• Is willing to assist with varied tasks outside traditional fabrication work
• Can solve practical problems without constant supervision
• Is reliable, organised and safety-conscious
• Works well as part of a small, multidisciplinary team
• Is willing to learn new machinery, software and production methods
• Can communicate clearly with team members and customers

Essential requirements

• Relevant fabrication and welding experience
• Ability to safely use common workshop and power tools
• Ability to accurately measure, mark and assemble fabricated components
• Physical ability to perform workshop and installation work
• Current Australian driver’s licence
• Ability to work legally in Australia

Highly regarded

• Trade qualification as a fabricator-welder, boilermaker or similar
• Experience with structural steel or architectural metalwork
• Experience fabricating stairs, handrails, gates, fences or steel frames
• Experience with signage structures or sign installation
• Experience using CNC plasma-cut components
• Aluminium or stainless-steel welding experience
• White Card
• Working at Heights certification
• Elevated Work Platform licence or Yellow Card
• Forklift licence
• Experience working in regional or remote locations

Applicants do not need experience in every area. We are interested in people with sound practical ability, a strong work ethic and the willingness to continue developing their skills.

Important information

This is not a workshop-only welding position.

The role includes onsite installation, signage work, deliveries, outdoor work and assisting with other production tasks when required.

Some projects may involve lifting materials, working from ladders or access equipment and travelling to local worksites.

Pay: $30.26 – $51.64 per hour
