About the role

M B BUTCHERY PTY LTD is seeking experienced Butcher and 2IC (Second in Command) positions and enthusiastic individuals for Apprentice roles on a full-time basis. Based in Warners Bay, NSW, this is an excellent opportunity to join a new butchery team where your craftsmanship and expertise will be valued. Whether you are an experienced butcher looking to take on a leadership role or a school leaver eager to learn a respected trade, we have positions available to suit your career stage. This is an on-site role where you will be working in our butchery environment, utilising traditional skills and modern practices to deliver quality products to our customers.

Key responsibilities

For 2IC and Butcher positions:

• Overseeing daily butchery operations and ensuring adherence to health, safety and food handling standards

• Training and supervising apprentices and junior staff members

• Preparing and processing meat products using professional butchery techniques

• Managing inventory, stock rotation and quality control of meat and products

• Assisting with customer service and special orders

• Maintaining a clean and hygienic work environment at all times

• Supporting management with operational tasks and problem-solving

For Apprentice positions:

• Learning fundamental butchery skills including meat cutting, boning, trimming and preparation

• Understanding health, safety and food hygiene regulations specific to the butchery industry

• Assisting experienced butchers with daily tasks and responsibilities

• Developing customer service skills and engaging with clients

• Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the work environment

• Progressively developing competency in butchery practices under supervision

What we're looking for

For 2IC and Butcher positions:

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a qualified butcher with proven expertise in meat preparation and processing

• Current or recent retail butchery experience in a busy environment

• Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to train and motivate staff

• Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards and relevant legislation

• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively

• Physical fitness and the ability to work in a cool environment and handle heavy loads

• A commitment to quality and attention to detail

For Apprentice positions:

• School leaver or early career entrant with a genuine interest in butchery as a trade

• Willingness to learn and develop professional butchery skills

• Physical capability to work in a cool environment and handle manual labour

• Strong work ethic, reliability and punctuality

• Basic numeracy and literacy skills

• The ability to follow health and safety procedures diligently

• A positive attitude and the capacity to work as part of a team
