Plumber - Maningrida Based

Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a full-time plumber to join our team based in Maningrida, NT. 

The Bawinanga Housing, Homelands and Construction (HHC) team is made up of a variety of trades and is responsible for works to support homelands in the Djelk IPA under the Homelands Municipal Essential Services grant (HMES) and the Homelands Housing Infrastructure Program (HHIP). As well as property maintenance and repairs to Bawinanga’s staff housing, commercial properties within Maningrida Township.

About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role provides hands on plumbing and drainage support in line with funding agreements, and job requests ensuring safety and health of residents both on homelands, and in Maningrida. This includes artist support, artwork production and conservation, exhibitions, retail and online sales, financial and grant management, cultural tourism, and community projects. 

This is a dynamic “on the tools” position for a plumbing professional passionate about supporting Indigenous communities, future planning of infrastructure and water security and problem solving in remote locations. 

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain plumbing and gas fitting systems, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures across municipal buildings, facilities, and homelands in Maningrida. 

• Implement and deliver planned maintenance programs and prioritise daily task schedules effectively. 

• Safely operate and maintain trade-specific power and hand tools, plant equipment, and vehicles. 

• Participate in call-out rotations for emergency plumbing, as required. 

• Assist in delivering other related municipal services to support the broader operational team when required. 

• Support and mentor apprentices and local workers where required, contributing to skills development and a positive team culture. 

• Complete required administrative tasks accurately, including job cards, safety documentation, quotes, and maintenance logs. 

• Maintain active Plumbing licences and relevant identification to comply with governmental regulations. 

• Proactively identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and service quality. 

• Develop and maintain positive, constructive relationships with internal BHAC staff, directors, community members, and external stakeholders. 

• Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, report hazards and incidents, and contribute to a safe working environment. 

• Undertake other reasonable duties within the scope of skills, competence and training as directed by the supervisor. 

About you

To be considered, you will bring demonstrated experience in remote plumbing situations, knowledge of water infrastructure such as bores, pumps and tanks, and show a keen interest in future planning and problem solving issues around water security and safety. 

Essential Qualifications & Capabilities: 

• Trade qualifications in Plumbing, Certificate III in Plumbing trade qualifications with a minimum of 6 years of post-trade experience. 

• Post trade experience of more than 2 years in delivering plumbing services in domestic and light commercial environments. 

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills with the ability to implement preventative maintenance principles. 

• Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to complete administrative paperwork, job cards, accurate reports and support the completion of government funding reports. 

• Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders. 

• Physical Fitness: confirming fitness for work, including the physical capability to undertake manual handling, heavy lifting, and demanding physical tasks in tropical climate conditions. 

• Willingness and ability to travel to remote communities as required.  

• Mandatory clearances, with the ability to maintain throughout employment: 

• Current C-Class Driver Licence. 

• Police check  

• Current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or ability to obtain. 

• Ability to attain and maintain a Northern Land Council (NLC) permit to work in Maningrida.
