Join the team and be a Discovery Guide (Tour Guide) and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna, and Aboriginal heritage.

 

About the role

The Southern Ranges Branch is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Discovery Guide to deliver memorable visitor experiences that inspire understanding, appreciation and stewardship of the natural and cultural heritage of Kosciuszko National Park.

In this rewarding educational role, you will lead guided tours, walks and learning programs for visitors, schools and community groups, helping people connect with the unique landscapes, wildlife and stories of the area. The position involves delivering both weekday and weekend programs and adapting experiences to suit a range of audiences.

All staff may be called on to provide customer service in the new discovery centre opening in 2027 by phone, email and face-to face, conduct hygiene duties and minor maintenance tasks to ensure the effective operations of the centre. This role is also responsible for reporting any faults or breakdowns to the Discovery Coordinator as well as any suspicious behaviour from the public.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about environmental education, visitor engagement and conservation to make a meaningful contribution to one of NSW's treasured natural areas.

 

About you

Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Experience in guiding, instructing, teaching and education will be highly valued along with your demonstrated passion for sharing knowledge of geography, geology, science and history, the Australian environment and an awareness of NPWS values.

• Senior First Aid certificate
