Laboratory Analyst Level III (Chemistry Inorganics)

About the role

Fixed-term, full-time contract from September 2026 to March 2026.

Reporting to the Chemistry Inorganics Team Leader, the incumbent is responsible for performing routine food testing, conducting a broad range of enzymatic and instrumental tests including testing the physical properties of samples. Tasks are undertaken using manual, semi-automated, and fully automated techniques. Where testing is automated, analysts are responsible for analysing data and reporting results.

Key responsibilities

Work Health & Safety:
• Work safely at all times in accordance with laboratory safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

Quality:
• Apply the laboratory quality management system and participate in continuous improvement processes.
• Use laboratory application and information management software effectively.
• Perform troubleshooting of analytical methods and equipment.

Teamwork:
• Conduct a range of routine analytical tests.
• Organise and maintain work areas to ensure efficiency and compliance.

Technical:
• Process, interpret, and report analytical data accurately.
• Define and resolve problems of limited complexity, where information may be less obvious but can be determined through direct reasoning.
• Conduct various tests on physical properties of samples.
• Conduct various enzymatic tests.
• Perform tests using wet chemistry techniques.
• Preparation of samples for instrumental tests.
• Preparation and routine testing skills at this level may include:
❖ Filtration, digestion, and extraction techniques;
❖ Preparation of standard solutions;
❖ Calibration of instruments and equipment; and
❖ Operation of analytical instruments.
• Ability to operate and perform testing using the following instruments:
❖ Spectrometer (Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/VIS);
❖ Plate reader (ELISA);
❖ Auto-titrator;
❖ Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES and MS); and
❖ Microwave Digestion Unit.

Customer Focus:
• Report results in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and methodologies underlying the tests conducted.
• Perform other duties as directed.

About you

• Tertiary qualification in Scientific discipline (essential).

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory role (Preferred).

• Understanding of NATA requirements, with experience working to GLP standards.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Quality-focused with strong attention to detail skills, and the ability to perform in fast- paced environment.

• Ability to prioritise workload effectively to meet daily deadlines.

• Experience using a Laboratory Information Management System [LIMS].
