The Role

Gilmore College is seeking to employ Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Primary Specialist Teachers with a deep knowledge of evidence-based pedagogical practices which focus on improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills. The role will include leading lower school small group tuition programs in Maths and English. You will ideally use data to inform your practice, with the intention of identifying and closing learning gaps for our students. Experience in using the Elastik platform and direct instruction programs such as MacLit would be beneficial to this role. The position will include a small teaching role of junior secondary where improved literacy and/or numeracy is the focus.

The successful applicant should have high expectations of all students and have the ability to establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment. You should be a flexible and responsive teacher, able to apply the strategies of differentiated instruction and explicit teaching using the Gilmore College Whole School Instructional Model – Greet, Review, Intentions, Teacher Input, and Tie it Together (GRITT).

Your role will ideally also include the provision of instructional coaching to teachers across all learning areas across lower school, with a focus on student engagement and achievement. As an instructional coach, you will partner with teachers to analyse their current reality, set powerful student-focused goals, identify, explain and model high impact teaching strategies to meet goals, and provide support until the goals are met. You will ideally use data collection tools to help teachers identify and meet those goals. Proficiency in using Jim Knight’s Impact Cycle as a coaching framework is highly desirable.

As an instructional coach, you should employ an array of high-level interpersonal skills that enable you to develop collaborative, nonjudgmental, and professional relationships with teachers. You should also display a commitment to personal excellence and continued professional growth.
