About the opportunity
Based in Perth's northern metropolitan area on a Monday to Friday roster with adhoc Saturday half days, Altrad are seeking an experienced Senior SMP Project Engineer with strong site-based construction experience to support the delivery of a Major Infrastructure construction project. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a significant project while maintaining a stable Perth-based working arrangement.
Forming part of the Project's Senior Leadership Team, this role is embedded on-site, coordinating and driving execution across multiple work fronts while providing hands-on, field-level leadership to ensure planning translates into safe, efficient delivery.
You'll work directly with client, workshop, and site teams on the ground, keeping communication tight and works moving through each stage of construction.
This role suits someone who's spent real time in an SMP construction environment, and who's ready to bring that field credibility into a senior capacity.
In this role you will:
Coordinate a team of SMP Project Engineers on-site to drive aligned project outcomes.
Work closely with the construction manager and superintendent to develop and implement practical, field-tested execution strategies across SMP scopes.
Act as a key on-site interface between client, workshop, and site to ensure seamless communication and delivery.
Manage subcontractors and vendors on the ground, including scope development and performance oversight.
Drive planning, scheduling, and progress tracking from a construction-execution perspective to support timely delivery.
Navigate SIMOPS and complex, live construction environments with a strong focus on safety and efficiency.
Support commercial outcomes through proactive, on-site problem solving and risk management.
Champion a strong HSEQ culture across all aspects of project delivery.
About you
You're a hands-on operator who's comfortable on the tools and on the ground, confidently managing site teams, stakeholders, and competing priorities to achieve safe and successful project outcomes.
You bring with you:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent Mechanical preferred) with substantial site-based experience.
Significant construction experience on SMP projects, with a strong focus on piping scopes, gained through direct site delivery.
Proven ability to lead and mentor an engineering team.
Strong, practical understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing, and SIMOPS within brownfield environments — gained through direct site exposure.
Experience managing subcontractors and vendors on-site, with the ability to drive performance and outcomes.
Demonstrated capability developing execution strategies and coordinating complex works from the field.
Commercial acumen and working knowledge of construction contracts and project controls.
Proficiency across project systems and tools, including MS Office, Excel, and planning software (e.g. P6).
Strong commitment to HSEQ, with a hands-on focus on maintaining safe and compliant site environments.
