About the role:
As Manager, State Events you will lead the successful delivery of Ageing Australia’s program of State conferences, member events and activities to ensure they meet the needs of Ageing Australia Members and other key sector stakeholders.
You will work within a collaborative team, reporting to the Director, Learning and Events and interact closely with internal experts, members and external stakeholders.
Please note that this is a full-time fixed term position with an end date of 6 August 2027. This role can be done from anywhere in Australia.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead, design and deliver Ageing Australia’s State Conferences and events, aligned to strategic objectives and member needs.
Lead the State Events team, setting priorities, managing performance and workloads and supporting professional development.
Develop annual and three-year event plans, including event strategy, programs, venues and budgets.
Lead conference program development, including themes, content, speakers and subject matter expert engagement.
Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, suppliers, government representatives and industry leaders.
Support event sponsorship and trade exhibition sales, including customised sponsorship packages and sponsor relationships.
Work with Marketing and Communications to deliver event marketing campaigns and strengthen brand visibility.
Manage event suppliers, contracts, logistics and operational requirements.
Identify and manage event risks, contingency planning and operational continuity.
Manage State event budgets, revenue targets and financial outcomes.
Monitor and report on event performance to inform future event strategy.
About you:
To be successful in this role you will have:
Demonstrated experience developing conference or event programs, including researching industry trends, identifying content opportunities and working with subject matter experts or content producers to develop engaging educational content.
Tertiary qualifications and relevant experience in event management, business, marketing, communications or a related discipline.
Strong leadership, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams through coaching, performance management, workload planning and fostering a collaborative culture.
Critical thinking skills and experience developing, implementing and monitoring strategic and operational plans.
High-level digital proficiency, including experience across event and marketing platforms, formats and channels, and conference management IT systems.
Strong commercial acumen, including the ability to evaluate, negotiate and initiate activities.
Strong time management and organisational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and teams in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, support internal teams as a business partner and respond effectively to internal and external stakeholder needs.
Strong event execution skills, with demonstrated experience in conference and events management processes and procedures.
Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to provide timely, accurate and professional service across all levels of the organisation.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team environment with a ‘can do’ attitude.
Willingness and ability to work outside normal business hours, with some national travel required (TOIL policy in place).
Desirable:
Knowledge, experience, and/or understanding of the key stakeholders and challenges facing the aged care sector.
Experience using event management, CRM and project management systems (e.g. EventsAIR, HubSpot and ClickUp) to support event delivery, stakeholder engagement and project management.
Excellent financial literacy, budgeting, research, reporting and evaluation skills.
