About the role
About the role
We are seeking a hands-on, autonomous Workshop Technician to take full ownership of our workshop and maintain our fleet, plant, and equipment. In this role, you will work closely alongside our Service Coordinator to align workshop operations with daily job requirements. Beyond mechanical repairs, you will play a key role in driving operator accountability—setting standards for how field staff care for their allocated tools and equipment and company vehicles, and directing productive depot tasks during bad weather or operational downtime.
75% Hands-On: Diagnosing, servicing, and fixing equipment.
25% Logistics & Coordination: Fleet/equipment upkeep standards, deliveries, workshop administration, and parts procurement.
This is a practical, shop-floor mechanical role for someone who takes pride in owning their workspace and maintaining operational standards, not an office management position.
Key responsibilities
Oversee and manage day-to-day workshop operations independently.
Work collaboratively with the Service Coordinator to schedule servicing, maintenance, and equipment deployment.
Monitor and hold field staff accountable for the routine care, cleanliness, and maintenance of their allocated vehicles and gear.
Direct and assign productive workshop maintenance, cleaning, and preparation tasks to field crews during non-productive depot downtime.
Manage the movement of plant and equipment between site projects.
Maintain accurate service schedules, maintenance records, and safety compliance documentation.
Source and procure parts, consumables, tools, and workshop supplies.
Ensure all fleet and equipment are maintained to high safety and operational standards.
Promote a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
About you
Proven mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience servicing, diagnosing, and repairing small engines, diesel plant, or mobile equipment.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the confidence to set clear standards for field crews and direct their time effectively in the workshop.
Ability to liaise effectively with service coordination, field personnel, and external suppliers.
Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to manage your daily workflow without constant supervision.
Current Australian Driver Licence.
Australian Defence Force (ADF) mechanical experience is highly regarded.
Trade qualification in small engine (2-stroke), diesel mechanics, fitting and turning, automotive, or a related trade (desirable).
Previous experience managing a workshop, plant fleet, or equipment hire operations (desirable).
Exposure to the construction, concrete cutting, demolition, or civil sectors (desirable).
Forklift licence (desirable).
About us
Auscut is a long-established small business providing specialized concrete cutting and core drilling construction services to clients across Victoria.
Benefits
Competitive Compensation: base salary + super (negotiable based on capability and experience).
Work-Life Balance: A sustainable, long-term position. We value family time and do not expect excessive overtime or regular weekend work.
Stability: Secure employment with a solid, long-standing industry operator.
Culture: A professional, respectful, and supportive team environment.
If you can confidently diagnose faults, keep equipment running, and hold field crews accountable for their gear and depot time, we want to hear from you. Apply now with your resume outlining your relevant experience
