About the role
Permanent Full Time (5 days per week)
Salary $115,000- $135,000 depending on level of experience
We're seeking a passionate
Mental Health Occupational Therapist who wants to be part of an innovative interdisciplinary team and help pioneer a new standard of
trauma-informed mental healthcare for our first responders.
First responder trauma-informed care is at the forefront of our mental health services. At Aegis Health, our state-of-the-art facility and approach creates a safe, respectful and profession-aware environment where first responders can feel understood, build trust and engage in recovery-focused care alongside others who share similar lived experiences.
We understand that first responders often carry the weight of repeated exposure to operational stressors and potentially traumatic events, and that seeking support can be shaped by privacy concerns, workplace culture and the unique ways trauma can present in this population.
We are proud to offer a dedicated
first responder-only ward at Aegis Health Clinic with specialised group programs for active and previously serving police officers, firefighters, paramedics, defence force personnel, emergency services personnel and others within the first responder community.
The Role
As a Mental Health Occupational Therapist, you'll work across our inpatient and outpatient services, providing trauma-informed and person-centred mental healthcare that supports our first responders’ recovery and promotes their long-term wellbeing. Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing evidence-based individual and group therapy
• Conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments and contributing to early intervention and care planning
• Delivering care coordination, including comprehensive case management and discharge planning to support safe care and life transitions
• Working collaboratively with psychiatrists, nurses and allied health professionals to deliver integrated care
• Liaising with families, carers, community agencies and external stakeholders to ensure continuity of care
• Supporting patients to access community services and build sustainable recovery beyond hospital care
• Contributing to service innovation and quality improvement initiatives
About You
• A recognised Occupational Therapy tertiary qualification
• Mental health endorsement through OT Australia or eligible to obtain it on request
• Current AHPRA registration
• 3+ years' experience in mental health
• Eligibility to work in Australia
• A passion for trauma-informed, holistic, recovery-oriented care and collaborative practice
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to innovation and continuous learning
Highly Regarded Experience
• First responder mental healthcare
• Inpatient mental health
• CBT, DBT or trauma-specific therapies (e.g. EMDR)
• Group therapy facilitation
If you're passionate about shaping the future of trauma-informed mental healthcare with first responders, we'd love to hear from you.
