Position Purpose

Leaders on Australian farms demonstrate every day that climate action, nature restoration and the energy shift are good for rural Australia. Yet these stories are still too often overshadowed by misinformation, polarisation and well-resourced counter-narratives.

The Communications & Digital Director is a new executive leadership role responsible for strengthening and leveraging our platforms to influence the public debate on climate, nature and the energy shift in regional Australia. Leading FCA's communications, media and digital strategy, the role will grow the visibility of farmer leadership, strengthen FCA's public profile and help reshape the national conversation. 

Working closely with the CEO and Executive Team, the Director will build sustained narrative power—transforming thousands of farmer stories into a consistent public voice that shapes debate, influences decision-makers and accelerates support for practical climate, nature and energy solutions across Australian agriculture.

The challenge isn't simply producing better communications. It's building a trusted rural narrative that cuts through misinformation, amplifies farmer voices and helps to position practical climate, nature and energy solutions in the mainstream conversation.

Farmers for Climate Action is seeking an exceptional Communications & Digital Director to lead our national communications strategy. You'll lead FCA's communications, media and digital strategy—growing our visibility, strengthening trusted farmer voices, expanding our digital reach and ensuring climate, nature and energy solutions remain part of the national conversation.

You'll transform communications into influence by building a visible, trusted and respected public voice that decision-makers cannot ignore.

In this role you'll:

• Lead FCA's national communications, media and digital strategy.
• Grow FCA's profile across regional, agricultural and national media.
• Influence Federal, State, and industry policy outcomes through compelling media interventions
• Lead digital communications, storytelling and audience growth.
• Develop rapid-response communications that shape public debate.
• Support farmers to become confident and influential media voices.
• Strengthen FCA's brand, reputation and public influence.
• Lead and develop a high-performing communications team and external creative partners.

We're looking for someone who has:

• Experience leading communications, media or public affairs strategy.
• A track record of growing organisational profile and public influence.
• Exceptional media and strategic communications capability.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Experience leading digital communications and audience growth.
• Outstanding writing, messaging and storytelling ability.
• A passion for rural Australia and farmer-led change.

Agricultural and rural experience is welcomed and highly regarded, but not essential. We're interested in exceptional communicators who know how to shape public conversations, build trust and amplify authentic voices.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience leading communications, media, digital or public affairs functions.
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communications campaigns.
• Strong understanding of media relations, reputation management and digital communications.
• Strong existing relationships across the media landscape
• Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience managing external agencies, consultants and creative suppliers.
• Strong strategic planning and project management capability.
• Commitment to FCA's mission and values.

Desirable:

• Experience in agriculture, advocacy, journalism or member-based organisations.
• Understanding of Australian agriculture, regional communities or the clean energy transition.
• Political communications or campaign experience.
• Crisis communications experience.
• Video, podcast or multimedia storytelling experience.
