Part-Time Electrical Technician (Tax-Free Pay)

Your Role

As a part-time Electrical Technician in the Army Reserve, you’ll play an important role keeping the Army’s electrical equipment in peak working order. Working with other specialist technicians, you’ll diagnose problems and faults, and maintain and repair fleets of commercial and domestic equipment, field generation systems and electrical appliances.

Your duties may include:

• diagnosing, maintaining and repairing Army refrigeration, air conditioning and power generation equipment
• performing safety and technical inspections on low and medium capacity generators, and portable and non-portable electrical appliances
• general soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Location

You will train for 3 weeks in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Following your training, you will be posted to an Army unit close to where you live.

Eligibility
For this role, you must:

• Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics

• Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
• Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
• You’ll need to be a qualified Electrical Technician having completed an approved apprenticeship or approved traineeship at a recognised institution, as well the full-time employment requirement for that trade
