Disability Support Worker – Ryde

Summary

We are seeking experienced, confident, and compassionate Disability Support Workers to join our team and provide person-centered support to three young men across two properties who have Level 3 autism spectrum disorder and complex support needs.

This role requires excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations. Successful applicants will be able to implement behaviour support strategies consistently, safely, and in line with individual support plans while promoting each person’s independence, dignity, and quality of life.

We are looking for reliable, flexible, and proactive team members who are available to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, sleepovers, and public holidays, and who can respond to short-notice staffing requirements when required. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while building positive relationships with residents, families, and stakeholders is essential.

About the role

You will support residents to follow structured routines, increase independence and participate meaningfully in daily life. The role includes:

• Supporting daily living skills and personal care
• Implementing proactive and reactive behaviour strategies
• Providing community access and skill-building opportunities
• Following comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans
• Accurate documentation and consistent communication with the support team and family
• Following medication administration requirements, including PRN administration

Shifts are available across weekdays and weekends:

• 6:00am – 3:00pm
• 3:00pm – 10:00pm
• 3:00pm – 10:00pm (sleepover shift 10:00pm – 7:00am)
• 7:00am – 9:00am

We are looking for workers who can complete shifts across these different shift times, who are able to pick up shifts on an ad hoc basis with the potential to pick up ongoing shifts for the right candidate.  

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 2+ years’ experience supporting people with autism and complex behaviours of concern
• Ability to remain calm and implement de-escalation techniques during high-intensity incidents
• Confident working independently while following detailed support plans
• Understanding of restrictive practices and commitment to safe, ethical implementation
• Strong communication and adaptability to each individual’s needs
• Patient, respectful, and committed to improving quality of life
• Physically capable of working safely during behavioural incidents
• Current NSW Driver’s Licence and reliable, insured vehicle
• Availability for a variety of shifts, including weekends

Essential Requirements

• NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
• First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)
• NSW Driver’s License
