Grocery Store - Retail Assistant

Hindustan Imports is a family-owned grocery retailer for Australia, Indian, South Asian and other international groceries and food ingredients.

Our store is more than just a place to shop - it is a community hub where culture and cuisine meet.

We are seeking an energetic, passionate and customer-centric Retail Assistant to join our team in Dandenong, Victoria on a full time basis.

You'll help create a welcoming shopping experience, assist our customers in finding their favourite ingredients, and ensure our store is well-stocked and organised.

The main duties associated with this role include:

• Customer assistance - greeting customers and assisting them in locating grocery items and food ingredients

• Sharing product knowledge, including recommendations for spices, lentils, flours, snacks, and other South Asian and international essentials

• Cash register and check-out duties, including accurate operation of the point-of-sale (POS) system and safe cash handling

• Ensuring shelves are neat, fully stocked and rotating products

• Maintain cleanliness and food safety standards in all areas of the store

• Other general shop tasks

Key qualifications and skills:

• Previous experience in grocery, supermarket or retail food environment is essential

• Knowledge and genuine interest in Indian/Asian groceries and health foods is highly valued

• Excellent customer service and communication skills

• Ability to lift and move stock as needed

• Attention to detail, especially with best before dates and food safety

• Candidates must have full working rights (38 hour week)

Approximate work hours:

• 9.00am to 5.00pm, totalling 38 hours per week

• Given the position is for 38 hours per week, students and those with limited working rights need not apply.

Remuneration and benefits:

• Casual hourly rate of $34.78 per hour (plus 12.0% superannuation) for Monday to Friday

• Opportunity for some Saturday working hours ( $41.72 per hour plus 12.0% superannuation)
