If you're passionate about quality, enjoy bringing structure to complex delivery programmes, and want to influence outcomes rather than simply execute test cases, this could be the opportunity you're looking for.
As Functional Test Lead, you'll play a critical role in ensuring technology and business change initiatives are delivered with quality, reliability, and confidence. You'll work closely with project teams, business stakeholders and delivery partners to shape testing strategies, lead testing activities, and help ensure solutions are ready for our members and employees.
This role matters because quality isn't just about finding defects. It's about helping teams deliver better experiences, reduce risk, and create change that works as intended from day one.
What you'll gain - The opportunity to lead testing across meaningful business and technology initiatives.
- Visibility across projects, stakeholders, and delivery teams.
- The chance to influence quality outcomes from planning through to implementation.
- A collaborative environment where technology and business teams work together to solve problems.
- The ability to contribute to change that supports better outcomes for members and colleagues.
What you'll do - Lead functional testing activities across projects, programs, and business initiatives.
- Develop and execute test strategies, plans and schedules that support successful delivery.
- Coordinate test resources, environments, defect management, and test execution activities.
- Work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, project teams, and vendors to ensure requirements are effectively validated.
- Provide clear reporting on testing progress, risks, issues, and overall quality readiness.
- Drive continuous improvement in testing practices, governance, and delivery quality.
What you'll bring
You enjoy bringing clarity to complex environments and understand how strong testing practices contribute to successful project outcomes. You're equally comfortable discussing requirements with business stakeholders and collaborating with technical teams to resolve issues and reduce delivery risk.
Essential - Experience leading functional testing activities within technology or business transformation environments.
- Strong understanding of test planning, test execution, defect management, and quality assurance processes.
- Experience coordinating testing across multiple stakeholders and delivery teams.
- Ability to assess risk, prioritise testing effort and provide practical recommendations.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working within Agile, Waterfall or hybrid delivery environments.
Nice to have - Experience within banking, financial services or a regulated environment.
- Exposure to digital, customer, lending, core banking, or enterprise transformation programs.
- Experience working with test management and defect tracking tools.
- Knowledge of test automation, integration testing, or end-to-end testing approaches.
- Relevant testing qualifications or certifications.
