About Just Reinvest NSW

Just Reinvest NSW is an Aboriginal-led organisation dedicated to reducing the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the criminal justice system. We advocate for justice reinvestment: redirecting resources from punitive criminal justice systems toward community-led initiatives that address root causes. Our work is grounded in collaboration with Aboriginal communities, ensuring solutions are driven by local priorities and cultural knowledge. By fostering opportunities for systemic change, we aim to create safer and more empowered communities across NSW.

The model has real runs on the board. Maranguka, JRNSW’s flagship justice reinvestment site in Bourke, was the first community-led justice reinvestment initiative in Australia and has been recognised with a HESTA Community Organisation Award and an Australian Human Rights Commission Community Organisation Award. JRNSW now supports justice reinvestment sites in communities including Bourke, Moree, Mount Druitt and the NSW South Coast, working alongside a coalition of more than 20 partner organisations across government, philanthropy and community.

The Role:

As part of our passionate and driven Research and Data team, you will report to a supportive and highly experienced manager with international working exposure. This role focuses on policy analysis, research, and data analysis to strengthen the evidence base for justice reinvestment and support informed advocacy and reform.

This role is well suited to someone with experience in policy analysis, research, or data analysis who wants to apply their analytical skills to social justice and justice reform.

Working across community, government, justice sector, and philanthropic stakeholders, you will analyse policy, research, and datasets to identify trends and emerging issues. Your work will translate complex evidence into clear and accessible insights for research reports, policy submissions, and advocacy aimed at advancing community-led solutions and systemic change.

What You Will Do

• Conduct policy and legislative analysis relating to criminal justice, youth justice, policing, and broader social policy issues.
• Analyse datasets and research findings to identify trends, patterns, and policy implications.
• Prepare high-quality briefing papers, research reports, and policy summaries for internal and external audiences.
• Contribute to evidence-based policy submissions and advocacy materials.
• Collaborate with the Head of Data and Research and program teams to ensure research and analysis reflects community priorities.
• Support the development of research outputs and data insights that inform decision-making and justice reform initiatives.
• Contribute to the organisation’s data-driven work, including data cleaning, analysis, and visualisation.

What You Will Bring

• Experience in policy analysis, research, or data analysis within government, academia, or the social sector.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex policy issues, research, and datasets.
• Experience analysing and visualising data in R (preferably), Python, PowerBI, and similar.
• Excellent written communication skills, including experience producing reports, briefings, or policy papers.
• Understanding of criminal justice, youth justice, or social policy is highly regarded.
• Commitment to social justice and supporting community-led change.
• Willingness to undertake a small amount of regional travel to visit our community partner sites.
