Expression of Interest | Psychologists | Toowoomba

The Veteran Health Association (VHA) is preparing to establish its Veterans' Better Life Program in Toowoomba, with anticipated commencement in early 2027, and is inviting expressions of interest from psychologists who may be interested in future opportunities within a multidisciplinary veteran-focused service.

This may suit psychologists who value high-quality care, strong clinical standards, meaningful work and collaborative practice. The program is designed to support veterans with mental wellbeing, adjustment, function, confidence and quality of life as part of a coordinated model involving psychology, physiotherapy and exercise physiology.

This is an Expression of Interest only and not an immediate vacancy. The purpose is to connect early with clinicians who may be interested in future opportunities should the Toowoomba service proceed.

We would be pleased to hear from psychologists who have experience or interest in:

• veteran mental health and DVA-related presentations

• trauma-informed care, adjustment, transition and stress-related presentations

• persistent pain, anxiety, depression and functional recovery

• working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical model

Depending on the final service model, future opportunities may include part-time, sessional, contractor or employee arrangements.

ABOUT VHA 

We’re an organisation that’s dedicated to improving the physical and mental health of veterans. 

We provide health care services through our Veterans’ Better Life Program; a framework we created back in 2015 to fill the gap in traditional veteran health care. 

Our successful program has become a leading front-line service for veterans. It’s now available at multiple locations on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Tweed Shire. We’re also expanding to new locations. 

MORE ABOUT THE ROLE (the technical stuff)

 To qualify for the role, you need to have: 

• full registration with AHPRA as a psychologist 

• strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• availability 2, 3 or 5 days a week

• business essentials, such as an ABN and insurances (if you don’t have these yet that’s ok, you’ll just need them before you start).

• current first aid and CPR certificate.

 Ideally, you’ll also have:

• experience in:

  • working within a multidisciplinary team

  • developing, implementing, and evaluating multidisciplinary treatment plans

• an interest or background in health and fitness.

We say ideally because it would be great if you had some experience, but it’s not essential. We’ll provide you with training and support. 

Graduates and experienced psychologists alike are encouraged to submit an expression of interest! 

Key things you’ll need to do in the role: 

• Work well within a multidisciplinary team.

• Effectively communicate with our veteran clients.

• Identify client-orientated goals and formulate treatment plans.

• Assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions.

• Implement behavioural activation protocols. 

• Facilitate treatment compliance.

• Manage and minimise psychological risk.

• Coordinate crisis intervention, as required.

• Maintain industry compliant records and reports.
