Ink & Coatings Technician – Metal Decoration

Interpack Australia is a leading manufacturer of premium metal packaging and closures. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Ink & Coatings Technician who enjoys technical challenges, colour precision and continuous improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with advanced metal decorating and coating technology, collaborate with experienced professionals and play an important role in delivering high-quality packaging solutions to customers across the food, beverage and industrial sectors.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for preparing, blending, testing and controlling UV inks, conventional inks and coatings used within our metal decoration operations.

Working closely with Production, Pre-Press and Quality teams, you will help maintain exceptional print quality, accurate colour consistency and efficient production performance.

·       Formulate and blend UV inks, conventional inks and coatings to required specifications.

·       Develop accurate colour matches using X-Rite spectrophotometers and colour management software.

·       Provide press-side technical support, including troubleshooting, viscosity adjustments and curing optimisation.

·       Conduct quality testing, including adhesion, flexibility, gloss, scratch resistance and cure performance.

·       Maintain master colour standards, proofs, formulations and accurate D365 records.

·       Work closely with Pre-Press on new product and colour development.

·       Manage ink room inventory and recycled ink programs to minimise waste.

·       Maintain ink dispensing systems, mixers and laboratory equipment.

·       Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to safety, quality, productivity, machine uptime and cost reduction.

·       Assist production teams in resolving ink, coating and print-quality issues.

To be successful in this position, you will ideally have:

·       Experience in metal decoration, offset printing, ink technology, coatings or a similar manufacturing environment.

·       A strong understanding of colour matching, colour management and print quality.

·       Experience working with UV and conventional inks and coatings.

·       Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

·       Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

·       Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across different departments.

·       A proactive attitude and a genuine interest in continuous improvement.

·       Experience using Microsoft D365 or another ERP system would be advantageous.
