What we do 

Think Mental Health (formerly Think Psychology Solutions) is a private organisation founded in 2011 by two local clinical psychologists, Vanessa Hamilton and Jason McCrae.  We deliver both a private mental health clinic (Think Clinic) and a range of community sector mental health services, supported by government funding. 

Think Mental Health currently delivers four community sector services; three Medicare Mental Health (MMH) Services; the territory-wide phone service, the Canberra Medicare Mental Health Centre (MMHC) and the soon to open Tuggeranong MMHC, along with Think WISE which is an in-reach psychological wellbeing service for residents of aged care homes. The MMH Services are nation-wide Adult Mental Health services.  All Think community services supported by funding from the Capital Health Network (CHN) through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.   

Position Purpose 

The Tuggeranong Centre will provide a range of mental health services to consumers in the ACT region.  Our Clinical staff members are appropriately qualified and experienced mental health professionals who provide a broad range of clinical services.  This includes supporting people who walk-in in distress, completing intake and/or comprehensive mental health assessments, providing service navigation, care coordination, treatment planning and a range of psychological interventions in both individual and group formats.  

Position Responsibilities 

Client services:  

• Provision of support, information, and advice to consumers and those involved with the care of individuals in psychological distress,

• • Including support to consumers is emotional distress, 

• Provision of intake assessment using the Commonwealth developed standardised needs assessment tool (IAR: Initial Assessment and Referral),  
• Includes provision of service navigation and appropriate follow-up. 
• Provision of comprehensive mental health assessment, case formulation, and treatment planning for consumers. 
• Provision of evidence-based and evidence-informed psychological interventions for individual consumers. 
• Delivery of evidence-based and evidence-informed group interventions.  

Administrative services:  

• Maintain all documentation as required by the operational guidelines. 
• Assistance in the development and documentation of group-based interventions. 
• Data entry as required by the operational guidelines.  

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience 

• Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Professional Registration Agency 
• Minimum of general registration 
• Clinical registrars or psychologists with AOPE in clinical psychology are encouraged to apply 
• Experience working with distressed consumers and those in crisis. 
• Experience in the assessment of adult consumers' mental health needs. 
• Experience in the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions. 
• Positive attitude and genuine interest in mental health care. 
• Relevant Working with Vulnerable Peoples (and NDIS) card for ACT & NSW or ability to obtain one.  
• National police check certificate or ability to obtain one 

Desirable Criteria: 

• Experience in assessment of mental health issues and knowledge of mental health services in the ACT region.  
• Experience in provision of short-term counselling support and/or crisis support for those struggling with their mental health. 
• Experience in DBT, individual or skills group, or interest in developing skills. 
• Experience in group program facilitation.  

Reporting Requirements 

1. The position will have a direct line manager assigned, for the Tuggeranong service this will be the Team Leader, and they will provide day-to-day operational and clinical support. 
2. All clinicians are provided with appropriate profession specific clinical supervision. For psychologists, the supervisor will have Board Approved (BAS) status.   

Work Hours 

This position is full-time, which equates to a 37.5 hr week, being 5 x 7.5hr days.  

The normal working hours are 9:00am – 5:30pm with a 1hr lunch break, though at times staff may be required to work outside these hours. Extended hours may be arranged based on consumer demand, with some group sessions being delivered outside standard working hours. Where service needs require work beyond normal hours, alternative work hours or time off in lieu can be negotiated. Therefore, the ability to work flexible hours is essential for this role.  

Full-time staff will not work more than 75hr fortnight. The position may be filled part-time in a job share arrangement.
